Originator Awards

What makes you an Originator?
Well when no one was dancing(breakin') in Denver around 1992..My crew and crew mates from the NC crew decided we was gonna start breakin' again and by 1993 we had established the deadliest all around Hip Hop crew in Denver for that time period.
What is your creative outlet?

Right now it's rocking and learning more about The Rock! My bro Rob Nasty gave me the rocking bug... I still love to break but if I had a choice I would Rock daily.

How did you get started?
Well I started breaking here in Denver when the first wave hit here in around 1984... learning from the older dudes in my neighborhood and at the Stapleton Rec Center from some of the DC Spinmasters. I started trying to DJ in 1988 with my boys Jerr Dogg & Big Cer Los...then started Graff in 1992 along with breaking all over again, kinda like a full circle.

How long have you been breaking?
Well like I said before, I started breaking in 1984 to about 1987, and started DJing in 1988 -1991. I got serious about graffiti in 1992 and got reignited to break as well from 1992 -1999. Then I took a break because I started a family and came back in the scene in the 2000's, like 2005-2006 or something like that. So all together around 32yrs in this culture paying dues!
What have you done in the community to share your outlet?
Well, in the 90's I helped come up with the concept to help Dave Stalls open the Spot, which was a Hip Hop community center. I helped re spark the BBoy/BGirl scene here in Denver. And have since been throwing events along side my ride or die brother DJ Chonz and my beautiful Wife Shelly. We've been doing this using our own funds and donations for about the past 7yrs - 8yrs.
Is there anything else you would like readers to know?
Don't forget who laid the foundation for you to do what you do. You didn't just wake up and it was the thing to do. A lot of people you may never know about or ever meet made this culture what it is today. All their contributions are just as important as the contributions of the people who made it.

What makes you an Originator?
Well I've never considered myself an “Originator” exactly but more of a bi-product of things I enjoy and that I've developed into my own style. A lot of effort and the willingness to stick to your guns probably can make someone an Originator.
What is your creative outlet?
Dance and Photography are def both my career and passion, I immerse myself in the culture of both of these crafts. I also really enjoy Comics.

How did you get started?
I got started in dance about 11 years ago now. I saw some kids in my high school doing some raving type stuff and one kid could do windmills so I spent a lot of time at lunch trying to get that move. Around 2004, I started getting really heavy into breakin' till' I met a guy named Popn Tod at a concert I was performing at (jurassic 5) and he came out and hit the craziest robot set I had seen at the time. At that point I was def focused on improving as a popper, primarily animation, poppin', waving and tutting. I entered my first battle in 2005. My second battle I entered with Poppin' John who is my favorite popper in the game right now. We ended up starting a crew in 2007 and the rest is history.
Photography I got started in because I bought a DSLR to film my dance and had no idea how to use it. I'm the type of person who will learn as much about something as I can if it interests me. So I started learning photo basics and next thing I know 4-5 years later I'm a full time photographer in Vegas.
How long have you been dancing?
I've been dancing for about 12 years if you count my goofy raver kid days, but poppin' I just passed my
10 year mark. I've been doing photography for about 3 years now, professionally for 2.
What have you done in the community to share your outlet?
I just recently moved to Vegas so I'm still getting my place in the community but I try to attend local events, and I usually provide a lot of dance/promo material for dancers. I also judge local battles in the community. I still make trips out to Denver to teach at my old studios and link up with my students. I also try to provide photography advice on my youtube channel when I can.

Take one move and turn it into a million. Spay and neuter your pets and eat healthy. You choose the order of importance…………HA!
